UOW in signing ceremony at new South Coast Private

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed today (23 May) between the University of Wollongong and Evolution Healthcare at the new 90-bed psychiatric hospital (South Coast Private).

Among those attending a tour of the Burelli Street facilities along with the signing ceremony were UOW Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Wellings and the Managing Director of Evolution Healthcare, Ben Thynne.

UOW provides tertiary education in medicine, nursing, psychology, nutrition/dietetics and exercise physiology associated with the provision of health care, including the facilitation of clinical and non-clinical student placements.

Evolution Healthcare operates health facilities in Australia, and two of these facilities are located in the Illawarra/Shoalhaven region, namely Shellharbour Private Hospital and South Coast Private.

Both parties wish to explore mutual collaborations in pursuant of common goals of promoting excellence in the education and clinical practice of health services. These collaborative activities are anticipated to include, but are not limited to:

(a) facilitating student clinical placements across relevant disciplines at UOW

(b) jointly funding positions to benefit both parties

(c) provision of professional development training

(d) engaging UOW staff on a consultancy basis, and

(e) planning and conducting collaborative research projects

South Coast Private is located in the old Rydges Hotel building in Burelli Street Wollongong across from the Australian Taxation Office.
